Celebrations from the past

CELEBRATORY memories are in store this week as the Weekly Memories takes you, the readers, on a voyage into Highbridge's past with our snapshots in time.

Our selection of glimpses into times consigned to the vaults of history reveal an insight into how people celebrated different occasions long before many of us were even born.

Our first snap, provided by the Highbridge History Project, shows children from the Wesleyan Sunday School excitedly preparing for an outing on July 26, 1905.

According to the historians behind our collection of photographs, the special day out was a very well supported event with the youngsters boarding the horse and carts to reach their destination.

Our next classic cutting comes from a vintage newspaper with the caption: "Some of the guests at the Globe Inn Pigeon Club dinner, held at the Railway Hotel, Highbridge, on Saturday. The chairman was Mr Noel Sheppard of Weston-super-Mare."

This is all the information we have concerning this clipping, but maybe it rings a bell with you - maybe you once knew a Mr Noel Sheppard from Weston? Get in touch if you did.

Finally, our third picture shows workers from the Pitts Brickyard also preparing for a works' day out - take a look at the size of the vintage vehicle they are clambering onboard.

Maybe our selection of retro photos has lit a fuse with you and rekindled some old memories from years gone by?

If you have any old photographs lying around in the attic or loft, why not send them in to us and share your reminisces and experiences - we love it when you do.

Post your pictures to: Weekly Memories, Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News, Royal Clarence House, York Buildings, High Street, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 3AT, or email newsdesk@burnhamnews.co.uk.
