THE instinctive actions of
Danielle Cooper (right)
may have saved the life of
an elderly man who
collapsed in the street in
front of her in Chard.
Danielle, 16, of Henson
Park, Chard, went to help
the man and discovered he
had a substantial wound
to his nose.
An ambulance was called
but during the wait the
man's condition
deteriorated and Danielle
comforted him and
monitored his breathing.
It was later discovered
that, due to previous
medical complications,
the man could have died
without Danielle's
assistance.
Danielle later visited the
man in hospital and has
since exchanged
Christmas cards.
Receiving her award and
a special engraved crystal
trophy from Connexions
Somerset, Danielle said
the man was extremely
grateful for her actions.

She told the News: "I'm
shocked to receive the
award but I would
encourage anyone who
finds themselves in the
same situation to do the
same."
Proud friend Alex
Callaghan and boyfriend
Luke Williams attended
Friday's ceremony with
Danielle. They said: "We're
extremely proud of her -
she's an amazing, caring
person.
