Jamie receives his award from News Editor-in-Chief, Ken Bird

GENTLE giant' Jamie Knight is a dedicated volunteer and fundraiser in South Petherton.

The 17-year-old, who is 6ft 8ins tall and who works for Cronite Castings of Crewkerne, is a member of the local youth parish council, serving as deputy chairman and now secretary.

He works with the local youth club management committee and action group and is quick to stand up for young people.

His award nomination reads: "Often referred to as the gentle giant', he always has a smile on his face and seems to understand the needs of older and younger people.

"He is very keen to help anybody and join in with village life and enjoys being part of Carnival.

"He'll have a go at anything, from discos to bingo calling, and is very much a people person."

Jamie also supported his family through bereavement and illness and has raised £1,500 for Children in Need.
