Community groups and charities in Somerset and Devon could land a cash jackpot of up to £50,000, thanks to Newsquest Somerset.

Newsquest Somerset publishes the Somerset County Gazette, Bridgwater Mercury, Chard and Ilminster News, Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News, Yeovil Express, and the Mid Devon Star.

Application forms are now available for grants from the Gannett Foundation.

The Gannett Foundation is the charitable arm of Gannett, owner of the Newsquest Media Group, which publishes more than 300 newspapers and websites nationwide.

The foundation provides funding support to local organisations in the areas where Newsquest operates in the UK and backs projects which take a creative approach to local community needs.

Grants can be for a maximum of £50,000 and all applications should provide details of costings.

The foundation gives priority to: projects of lasting benefit; youth projects; projects that benefit people with special needs either through disability or disadvantage; and sport. Environment, conservation and local history projects.

FIVE copies of the application form must be submitted to the address below before the deadline of 10am on Monday, September 13, 2010:
