Dog found in "appalling condition"
"Appalling condition": The Staffordshire bull terrier found in fields between Mark and Burtle

A STAFFORDSHIRE bull terrier has been found in an "appalling condition" by a farmer in a field between Mark and Burtle.

The bitch was found unable to stand and on contact screamed with pain and a vet was immediately called to assess her. An appeal has now been made to trace her owners.

Fiona Jeffries, dog warden for Sedgemoor District Council, said: "She was able to be taken to the surgery for immediate attention as she was very dehydrated, very underweight and obviously suffering from severe mange covering three quarters of her body causing wounds and swelling of joints from infection.

"It wasn't known if she would survive the night even. But she is doing amazingly well now, eating and being bathed and can walk a short distance."

Experts believe her to be a mainly black, young adult bull terrier, with a white blaze on her chest.

Fiona added: "We are appealing to anyone who might have any information about her or maybe someone has had their young staffy bitch stolen or gone missing in the last six months to contact us.

"Her condition would have taken months to get to the severe stage it is at now but with a lot of love and care she will again be a beautiful little girl with a lot of love to give."

Anyone with information can contact Fiona Jeffries on 01278-435210.
