MORE than 200 jobs have been created in the South-West by construction firm Morgan Ashurst through its work on an £8million new college building in the region.
The company, a subsidiary of the Morgan Sindall construction group, has taken on 220 local workers, including labourers, carpenters and drivers, to help it build South Devon College's new University Centre at its Vantage Point campus in Paignton.
Work on the four-storey, 2,300 square foot building, which will include eco-friendly features such as rain-water harvesting and solar panels, began in November last year and is expected to be open to students by September.
The firm's area director Aston Mills said: "Every decision needs to fit with your business strategy, not just now but in the future.
"That's why we are continuing to invest in our local economy by working with local subcontractors and suppliers and we are in the fortunate position of being able to do this."
