A WESTON-based author has published a crime thriller novel, copies of which are expected to hit the shelves in the next few weeks.

Edward Burley's book, titled Blame, was published by Foreshore Publishing in September 2022.

The book follows the story of Joseph Darby, a sociology of culture lecturer who feels disillusioned by the self-inflicted behaviours of the students he is trying to teach.

Meanwhile, a bomb is detonated in the city’s biggest cinema, killing some of the students. Two other devices are detonated at other venues populated by students shortly after.

Detectives DCI Colin Mills and DI Kate Dee race to catch the bomber before more are killed.

Physical copies of the novel will be on shelves after a delay due to unforeseen circumstances.

When available, copies can be brought directly from the publisher or through Waterstones and Foyles.

Ed, who works as a support worker in the Burnham area, says: "Like many people, lockdown affected my being able to express myself via my usual creative outlook. For me that was music. I was about to begin pre-production on the second release with my band when all the restrictions came in.

"I’d had the idea for what became Blame for some time, so simply decided to pursue it.

"I feel very fortunate to have been published. A lot of first time authors end up having to self publish.

"I am currently working on my second book called Agency. Having talked to my publisher, we are tentatively planning on releasing it in late 2024, allowing Blame time to hopefully find an audience in the meantime."

As stated on the Foreshore Publishing website, Edward has always been pondering certain questions about humanity, such as: what makes people do what they do?

This is part of the reason he chose to delve into the world of crime fiction, to explore this question.

Not only does Edward write, but he also boasts an impressive guitar collection.
