AFTER a long hiatus, Wedmore Opera will return to the village with a modernised rendition of an iconic Mozart opera.

The team have brought Mozart's Marriage of Figaro into the 21st century, with the production set in a glamorous hotel on an off-shore island.

Like all Wedmore Opera productions, the Marriage of Figaro will combine a professional orchestra and professional principal singers with a chorus of local performers.

A spokesperon for the event said: "This year the formula has an added appeal: the professional singers in the starring roles boast local connections in addition to their wider expertise!"

"Count and Countess Almavera, Susanna, Marcelina and Figaro himself have close links to the area while Curzio is actually a Wedmore resident."

Rehearsals are already underway for the opera which will be performed at Wedmore Village Hall on October 11, 13, and 14, starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets will go on sale on Friday September 1, and are expected to sell quickly. Those wanting to attend can secure their ticket on the Wedmore Opera website, or from Wedmore Village Store.
