A STRIKING mural depicting a fisherman and a dog has been painted onto a large wall in Burnham-on-Sea.

The talented duo behind the piece is made up of Burnham local Robin Gunney, alongside Jeff Paints, who both spent all weekend working on the beautiful painting.

The mural, which features a fisherman and a border collie backdropped by a sun-set over the sea, is situated on the side of Take Two Coffee Shop, after Robin and Jeff got permission form the cafe's owner.

Although there is no real 'meaning' behind the art, Robin told the Weekly News he hopes it will bring some joy to those who see it.

“I wanted to paint something that I thought people would like and would fit in with the town," he said.

"I hope it makes people feel happy - I hope people like seeing art in the public space.

“I hope it brings a little bit of joy and colour into their world for the day. ”Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News: Robin hopes the mural painted by himself and Jeff will 'make people happy'.Robin hopes the mural painted by himself and Jeff will 'make people happy'. (Image: Robin Gunney)

Robin and Jeff have painted several wall murals together, and have been eyeing up the perfect canvas on the wall of the local coffee shop for some time now.

“I moved here at the end of 2022 - I’ve had my eye on that wall for a while," Robin said.

Robin came up with the idea for the piece, but enlisted the help of Jeff due to his experience with painting dogs.

The pair marked up plans for the painting in the evening of Friday, February 9, and worked from 9am until 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday on the mural.Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News: Jeff Paints, who played an equal role in the mural, is described by Robin as a 'dog specialist'.Jeff Paints, who played an equal role in the mural, is described by Robin as a 'dog specialist'. Although it may look immaculate to the untrained eye, Robin is considering returning to make a few finishing touches to the artwork in the near future.

Robin works as a wall muralist, and although this is his first big project in Burnham-on-Sea, visitors to Apex Park in Highbridge will be familiar with his bird of prey painting in the skate park.

He hopes that the positive reception of his new mural will allow him to work on more wall paintings in Burnham-on-Sea.

"I hope I get to do more in Burnham and Highbridge and around the local area," he said.

“It’s my hobby as well as my job.

“I really hope that I can get some more walls out the back of it."
