A STRIKING mural depicting a fisherman and a dog in Burnham-on-Sea has left locals in awe.

It was painted on the side of Take Two Coffee Shop by Robin Gunney and Jeff Paints.

Since its unveiling, the mural has attracted attention for its intricate details and story-like illustrations.

The duo spent an entire weekend painting and their hard work clearly paid off as residents and readers reacted positively to the art.

One resident exclaimed: "Stunning," while another said: "Wow this is outstanding, look forward to seeing it!"

The mural, which displays a man and his border collie against a sea sunset, was done without any specific concept in mind, according to Robin.

“I wanted to paint something that I thought people would like and would fit in with the town," he said.

"I hope it makes people feel happy - I hope people like seeing art in the public space.

“I hope it brings a little bit of joy and colour into their world for the day. ”

Enthused by the positive feedback, Robin who moved to Burnham-on-Sea in late 2022, wishes to work on more wall murals in the area.

Alongside admiration for the mural, locals also considered its impact on the community.

One thing they certainly agreed on, was the mural's storytelling aspect.

A local appreciator expressed this saying: "It tells such an amazing story, I love it," while another hinted at the narrative capability they found in the image, stating, "I love it, to capture such characterful faces on such a large scale".

The mural showcases the duo's talent, with Jeff primarily recruited for his skill at painting dogs - a detail that wasn't lost on the locals.

One observer shared: "I saw it yesterday, it's spectacular".

This is Robin's first big project in Burnham-on-Sea after moving to the area last year.

Known for his bird of prey painting at Apex Park in Highbridge, he now adds this large-scale mural to his repertoire.

As residents revel in the beauty of the mural and speak of their enjoyment, Robin and Jeff’s efforts to add joy, colour and well-crafted art to public spaces will hopefully continue with future projects.

Their intention has been realised, it seems, as one local concluded heartily: "Oh my, that's so lovely - we need more!".
