THE Glastonbury Festival donated more than £2 million to good causes last year.

Schools, sports clubs and youth groups were among those who benefitted, alongside the main three charities backed by the Somerset festival - Oxfam, Greenpeace and WaterAid.

Festival organisers Michael and Emily Eavis said: "Over the past three years we have been able to make core donations to our main three supported causes – Oxfam, Greenpeace, WaterAid – of £3.75 million; with total donations of over £6 million to worthy causes, both local and international, since the festival’s last fallow year.

"As well as our main three beneficiaries, the Festival has continued to support hundreds of worthy causes, schools and sports groups. There are too many to list, but a selection of them is listed below.

"In 2015 we were also humbled by the generous support of everyone who took part in our fundraising auction and raffle in aid of Oxfam’s Refugee Appeal, which generated over £105,000 directly to Oxfam, in addition to the Festival’s donations.

"Thank you to everyone who contributed by coming to the Festival; fundraising in the Oxfam appeal; and to all the incredible volunteers whose support and time makes these donations possible."
