REVELLERS at Glastonbury Festival 2008 were blessed with the best weather of the weekend on Saturday and the calibre of music on offer did not disappoint.

All eyes were on Amy Winehouse and the unmistakable hip-hop powerhouse Jay-Z on the Pyramid Stage. Although a controversial choice for a headliner, the rap icon did not disappoint, opening his show with a version of Oasis' classic Wonderwall, following Noel Gallagher's damning comments regarding his appearance at the festival earlier in the year.

His show was faultless, prompting audience interaction throughout with hits such as 99 Problems and Girls.

The performance is sure to go down in Glastonbury Festival folklore and Michael Eavis must be very pleased with the way his gamble has paid off.

In comparison, Amy Winehouse's performance was laboured and the strain of her recent troubles were arguably showing and sections of the audience failed to warm to sections of her set.

Earlier in the day, Brighton-based indie stars British Sea Power gave a fantastic performance on the John Peel Stage, as did the highly-energetic The Futureheads.

The Wombats, Seasick Steve and Simian Mobile Disco also gathered huge crowds and their performances did not disappoint.

Saturday did more than enough to live up to Friday's high expectations and the glorious weather was an added bonus.

Only Sunday remains of this unique festival and, if the weather matches Saturday and the music maintain's its high standard, Glastonbury Festival 2008 could go down as one of the finest in its history.
