Nicholas Lyndhurst has hit out at celebrity reality TV shows.

The Only Fools And Horses actor, 53, is currently starring as an "oddball" retired police officer in hit BBC One police drama New Tricks.

Asked what shows he could not stand to watch, Nicholas told Radio Times magazine: "How much time do you have? Anything with the word 'celebrity' in it.

"All the competitions - the bake-offs, the skate-offs, the celebrity dog walkers, the jungle... Why can't we film people who are good at something?"

He called on British broadcasters to make "an exquisite, character-led comedy show" like US sitcom Modern Family.

Nicholas said of David Beckham's cameo in this year's Only Fools And Horses Sport Relief special: "I didn't think he was going to blow anyone's socks off with his performance - he'd be the first to admit that.

"He was very, very scared but very good. We spent a lot of time saying, 'It's OK, just relax.' He's an absolutely charming man."
