Tom Hiddleston has revealed that keen he is to return to the London stage after an appearance at Shakespeare’s Globe to read a prize-winning short story.
The Night Manager star last trod the boards in the capital in Shakespeare’s Coriolanus at the Donmar Warehouse in 2013-14 and admitted he is feeling the itch to get back to his theatrical roots.
Tom, who read one of the silver medal-winning stories in Radio 2′s 500 Words competition for children under 13, said walking out on stage brought back the urge, adding: “It was quite special, it’s a very special theatre.
“It’s been very brilliantly designed and you really feel like you’ve been part of something unique with the audience, it’s very profoundly live.
“So I’m definitely scratching away at the itch. We will see.”
However, the 35-year-old actor was tight-lipped about what play could lure him back to the theatre, saying: “I don’t know, I don’t want to say because then people will get over-excited.”
Kenneth Branagh, who directed Tom as Loki in Marvel’s film Thor, has previously said he would love to direct him in Shakespeare.
Asked if he would be keen to collaborate again, Tom said: “I will have to give him a ring. And I have to see his Romeo and Juliet first!”
One thing he would commit to is watching Chris Evans in his new series of Top Gear when it starts on Sunday.
The previous Star In A Reasonably Priced car competitor said: “I will watch it on Sunday, it sounds fun. I think also Chris has such a great energy and I can’t wait to see what the chemistry is like with Matt LeBlanc. It seems like a strange and brilliant match, a really fun pairing.”
