Stars have turned up in their Thursday best on the Ivor Novello Awards red carpet.

The awards ceremony is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

See who was putting their best foot forward at the event…

Queen’s Brian May stepped out with wife Anita Dobson, and was happy to talk about the latest hot topic – the Eurovision Song Contest – saying there had been some “great songs” over the years, and some not so great.

He said: “It’s been very patchy the Eurovision Song Contest. I remember when I was younger thinking why don’t the Beatles just put all their songs in there and win all the prizes. I suppose there’s a very trite formula to win but there’s been some great songs.”

Brian went on to say: “Abba notably scored a success with a song that is immortal. A lot of people say Abba, it’s not rock and roll. But if you write a great song it’s a great song forever.”

Former JLS star Aston Merrygold said he still sees the other guys from the band, who split in 2013.

He said: “We’re still a tight family so it’s lovely.”

He also talked about his solo career and how strange it was to be working on his own: “It is weird at first… If you’re writing certain lyrics or play a certain note you’re looking for that assurance from the people next to you. You might think it sounds great, and they might think it sounds rubbish.

“But now if I like it, it’s just down to me, which is kind of crazy. The creative stuff is all mine.”

Sir Bob Geldof and daughter Pixie made the Ivors a family affair.
