Fans of Coronation Street’s Maria Connor can breathe a sigh of relief.
Actress Samia Ghadie says she is safe from the axe that is reportedly hanging over Weatherfield.
The show’s new executive producer Kate Oates has apparently been calling in members of the cast for chats about their futures but Samia says she sees a bright future on the cobbles.
She told OK: “I had a meeting with Kate last week to discuss where we both think my character Maria should be heading.
“Kate shared a few exciting ideas and storylines so I’m really excited about that.”
Her cast-mate Claire King previously said she is worried she could lose her job under the new regime.
The former Emmerdale star told the Mirror: “I don’t know if I will be safe. They always like to put their own stamp on things, I have been around the block a few times so I know how it works.
“It will be fine if she feels the character does not work. We are all self-employed and you adapt and change when things happen.”
Kate also previously worked on Emmerdale and was not shy about killing off characters.
“We have all seen what she has done with Emmerdale.
“We all think she will be a great asset for Corrie.”
Kate has already reassured the cast their jobs are safe, saying in January: “I think the show has a great cast.
“I know a lot of them already and nobody has cause to be afraid.”
She also revealed she would love to see Poldark star Aidan Turner on the cobbles.
She said: “There is a lot of talent out there and some of it is very handsome.
“Someone like Aidan would be brilliant.”
