A TALENTED youngster from Burtle is just one step away from performing at the O2 Arena in London after wowing the crowd and judging panel at a competition in Bristol.

Jonny Shipton, 14, was one of thousands who entered Open Mic UK 2012 and was chosen as one of the best unsigned singers from across the country, performing at the Bristol regional final.

He impressed with his own version of Ed Sheeran’s You Need Me, I Don’t Need You and is set to play at the London and South of England Area Final in December for the chance to progress to the national grand final in London on January 19, 2013.

Jonny also won the audience vote at Bristol in the U16 category and came runner-up in the Exposure Award competition for the best publicity, winning £100 worth of professional vocal coaching at ‘Artist Studios’ in Bristol.

He said: “I was really nervous performing in front of such a big audience but it was great to have my family and friends from school there for moral support.”

You can see the performance by typing Muzu Jonny Shipton into a search engine online.

Jonny is busy writing his own songs and polishing new covers for the area finals.
