MUSIC lovers can look forward to the Mid Somerset Orchestra’s (MSO) new season of concerts over the coming months.
Under the direction of principal conductor Stephen Smith and leader Hywel Jenkins, the orchestra will perform at Strode Theatre in Street tonight (November 24).
The show, featuring Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto with soloist Matthew Stanley and Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, has sold out but anyone without a ticket is encouraged to contact the theatre for the possibility of returns.
However, those who miss out on this show can now get tickets for the winter concert on January 26 at the theatre for an evening of classical delights.
It will open with the overture to Cimarosa’s opera The Secret Marriage (1792) – music bubbling with intrigue – followed by regular performers Carole Jenner-Timms and Julia Hammersley taking centre stage in Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp before the evening concludes with Haydn’s Clock Symphony.
To end the season in style the orchestra’s summer prom concert July 6 will feature the 200-year-old Verdi’s Force of Destiny Overture, the MSO’s first ever performance of Schumann’s Piano Concerto.
All concerts start at 7.30pm. Tickets (all reserved) are £11 (£9 concessions and £3 for under-18s) and are available from Strode Theatre via strodetheatre.co.uk or on 01458-442846.
