THE Mid Somerset Orchestra's new season of concerts gets into full swing with the winter concert at Strode Theatre in Street on January 26.

A talented group of musicians, leader Hywel Jenkins and conductor Stephen Smith will present the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto - an evening of classical delights.

It will open with the overture to Cimarosa's opera The Secret Marriage (1792) - music bubbling with intrigue - followed by regular performers Carole Jenner-Timms and Julia Hammersley taking centre stage in Mozart's Concerto for Flute and Harp, before the evening concludes with Haydn's Clock Symphony.

To end the season in style the orchestra's summer prom concert on July 6 will include the 200-year-old Verdi's Force of Destiny Overture, the MSO's first ever performance of Schumann's Piano Concerto with BBC Young Musician of the Year featured accompanist Hilary Suckling taking the solo part and Somewhere Unknown by former MSO member Liz Lane, before ending with Last Night celebrations.

All concerts start at 7.30pm. Tickets (all reserved) are £11 (£9 concessions and £3 for under-18s) and are available from Strode Theatre via www.strodetheatre.co.uk or on 01458-442846 - the box office is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
