Kites on the beach at Weston
11:07am Friday 22nd February 2013 in What's On
WESTON beach has been chosen to host a major new kite festival, which organisers hope will become a permanent fixture in the town’s growing events programme.
Invited guest flyers will join with local kite group Avon Kite Flyers in staging aerial displays on the beach throughout the weekend beginning June 8.
Spectators will be able to enjoy colourful kites of all shapes and sizes with giant 3D creatures, awesome power kites and synchronised team routines flown to music.
Event organiser Avril Baker said: “We hope the festival will attract many kite enthusiasts as well as providing an added spectacle for those visiting Weston on their holidays or for a family day out on the beach.
“We’d like to thank North Somerset Council for their help and support to date in helping to stage this event and look forward to putting on a really successful show for all concerned.”
Councillor for North Somerset Felicity Baker said: “The beach is a great venue for this type of festival, and I’ve no doubt it will be a colourful and fantastic spectacle for everyone going to watch.”
