Secretary's hidden talent uncovered in run of art shows

SOUTH west artist Margaret Rirordan is making waves with her art on the Somerset coastline.
Inspired by artist Jack Vettriano, the self-taught painter’s work is currently exhibiting at Hadleys on Weston’s Boulevard – but there’s more in store.
Come September 21 her watercolours will feature in the “Art In the Corridor” exhibition, at Weston’s Winter Gardens.
Then in the new year she’s set to go solo at Burnham’s Princess Theatre’s Open Studios – where she’ll even pay homage to Jack by displaying her own copies of his work, with his blessing.
“He loves doing people and I love the way he captures the 1940s and its style, with their trilbies,” she says.
“I like buildings, scenes, trains, boats, planes... if it’s there, I want to paint it. I was a secretary by profession but I have always loved to paint as a past time.
“Arthritis unfortunately prevents me from painting as a profession so my paintings will not flood the market and any painting I sell hopefully will be even more valuable one day by its rarity,” she says.
To view Margaret’s work, currently showing at Hadleys at Number One in Weston, drop in between 9am and 4pm, MondayThursday, 9am-4.30pm and 6.30pm-9.30pm, Friday-Saturday, or 10am-2.30pm on Sundays.
