12:44pm Thursday 29th August 2013 in What's On
ONE HUNDRED hours of live folk gets underway at Burnham’s Folkfest from today (Thursday) with upwards of 60 performers taking over a variety of venues across town.
On the extravagant list of entertainers, is – at a glimpse – the acclaimed Rosie Eade and her band, armed with her ¾ acoustic guitar, folk-world music fusers The Alchemist’s Wardrobe, locally based singer-songwriter Taylor Topham and Bristol-based duo The Coarse Envelope.
Opening the ‘mostly free’ festival proceedings at Ritz Acoustic Club from 8pm tonight, is Three Sheets T’Wind, at £4 entry.
Then from 8pm on Friday, August 30, an audience at the Princess Theatre and Arts Centre will sample the authentic Gypsy Roma music tradition in the form of Romany Diamonds, with support from the Alchemist’s Wardrobe, at £10 a ticket.
Burnham’s eighth annual Folkfest will kick off on Saturday, with live music across six pub and stage venues, complemented by music and dance workshops and a central traders’ market.
And to top it all off, an open air concert in Manor Gardens Park will bring Folkfest to its close on Sunday, September 1.
