Speaking their mind: The Vagina Monologues at Weston's Playhouse
2:25pm Thursday 19th September 2013 in What's On
THE Vagina Monologues will wow audiences at Weston’s Playhouse Theatre this month.
The controversial comedy stars three popular TV actresses – Diane Keen, Terri Dwyer and Hollie-Jay Bowes.
Keen, who has just finished a ten-year stint on daytime soap, Doctors, says she was “tickled pink” to be invited to star in the show.
“There are certain shows that have become iconic and tour all over with a huge following,” she said. “It’s something actors want to be part of.”
Dwyer, who has taken time out of acting after leaving a six year role in Hollyoaks, isn’t afraid of the risqué subject matter.
She explained: “I’m not a wallflower – I’m comfortable with the subject and these things do not frighten me.”
Although the show is very much about women, it certainly does not exclude men, and Bowes, who also found fame on screen in Hollyoaks, believes the show has a wide appeal.
“Lots of people I’ve talked to want to come and see it,” she said. “Even my friend’s dad is coming!”
While Dwyer agrees men are not only welcome, but should make it part of their education.
“That’s really serious stuff down there,” she says, referring to women’s sexual make-up. “A man really needs to know about it and this is a fun and intelligent way to learn.”
For tickets to see the show, on September 28, call the box office on 01934-645544.
