WITH winter approaching there’s no better time to try your hand at indoor kurling – with a brand new sports session starting at the Princess Theatre in Burnham from today (Thursday).
Unlike the definitive ice-rink sport of the Winter Olympics, curling, kurling is played in a sports hall.
Two rinks are to be set up at the arts centre for players, with bags of experience or none, to learn the expert slide.
Organiser Brian Saunders wants to “introduce the sport to as many people as I possibly can”.
If all goes well he hopes to start up a “proper curling club”, he says.
“It’s exactly the same as the sport you see on the ice, only you don’t have to brush ice. You just send the kurling stones up and they hit a target at the other end.”
Indoor kurling runs at the Princess Theatre, Burnham, from 12pm-3pm in the Main Hall, and entry is £1.50 per person.
