POPULAR songs and Christmas classics are in store for ticket holders coming to hear the hardest-working brass band troupe in Burnham and Highbridge on Sunday.

Members of the Burnham and Highbridge Brass Band are looking forward to presenting their rousing rendition of carols and chart hits this weekend, which they’ll bring to a crescendo with ‘White Christmas’.

Musical director David Fisher told the Weekly News: “We have a festive programme to get everybody in the mood.

“The limelight will fall on principal cornet Graham Davies, who is performing the Candlelight Carol by John Rutter; Jane Greg, who will play Silver Threads Among the Gold on silver horn, and principal tuber Ken Henton, who will perform The Blaydon Races.”

It has been an incredibly busy year for the Burnham and Highbridge Brass Band, who are even more in-demand at this time of year.

The group’s concert at Burnham’s Princess will be made even more special by the presentation of The Bandsman of the Year Award.

David says: “It’s awarded to the person who goes that extra mile, and believe you me, over the last five or six years, a number of people have done just that.

“It’s not just about playing in the band – if there’s a problem, they’re the first to get their hands dirty.”

Tickets cost £6/£5 from Burnham’s Princess Theatre and Arts Centre. The concert starts at 7.45pm.
