THE human form was literally laid bare in an art festival determined to shake up public perceptions of life drawing in Pawlett.

Where There’s Life: A Festival of Life Drawing was the brainchild of Dave Clarke, a professional model who inspired a sculpture owned by Charles Saatchi.

More than 30 artists from Minehead to Chepstow submitted their nude works for the show, which was held across Pawlett pavilion and village hall.

Dave said: “We had a fantastic submission by the artists.

"I would particularly like to thank everyone who submitted their work, including Pawlett Painters, North Petherton Drawing Group, and my own life drawing groups from Minehead and Pawlett.

“However I still feel Somerset needs to open its eyes to the world of art and nudity, and not keep thinking that life drawing is something that’s sexually suggestive.

"That’s what I can’t get by people at the moment.”

While Dave had hoped for a stronger turn out, the show of naked figures succeeded in converting new recruits to the discipline.

He also thanked Sue Bird, his sons Jamie and Michael, and John Thorne for their help.

Plans are now underway for a ‘10 years of life drawing festival’ for 2015.

DAVE Clarke’s next life drawing classes are at Pawlett village hall on Saturday, May 17 and 31, between 10am and 3.30pm.

May 17 is a single model day at £15, and two models will pose on May 31, at £20 a place.
