HUNDREDS of artists across the county throw open the doors to their studios for a fortnight this September for Somerset Art Weeks.

The art-curious public are encouraged to embark on a pilgrimage of visual arts venues from Saturday September 20 until Friday October 5.

Among the Burnham area talents signed up, are:

o LINDA GEE of The Garden Studio at 212 Burnham Road, Burnham, with her vibrant textiles, using washes of paint and layers of fabric

o ERIC PETRIE, at 100, Highbridge Road, Burnham, with his art of margins; paintings preoccupied with animals and birds between earth and water

o PETER HOWE, of Meadow View (No. 16), on Burnham’s Osborne Walk, showcasing his selection of contemporary paintings in oil and acryclic

o CORA STOCK and MARGARET MICKLEWRIGHT at 47 The Esplanade, Burnham, combining etchings and ceramics, landscape paintings and sculpture

o TIMOTHY SMITH, with his focus on ‘beauty overlooked’, capturing local scenes in acrylic and gouache at his base in 47, Rosewood Avenue, Burnham

o GEORGE FOWRAKER, a professional wood-turner at 7, Rectory Drive, Burnham, fashioning objects from pens and bowls to platters and outsize ornaments

o And SHEILA HOLNESS, specialist in jewellery, pottery and silverwork at Rose Cottage, at 8 Brent Street, Brent Knoll.

Somerset Art Weeks’ patron, Grand Designs’ Kevin McCloud, has described the annual arts celebration as playing “an invaluable role” in promoting the county’s arts.
