REHEARSALS are underway for Bridgwater Pantomime Society’s production of Aladdin and his Lamp.

Keith and Margaret Robinson, who were awarded The Bridgwater Cup last year for their service to the community and amateur stage in Bridgwater, have not only written this very funny show but are also co-producers/ directors alongside Richard J. Porter.

For the first time in the society’s history the role of Aladdin will be played by a male and Bridgwater and district pub/ club circuit regular Jordan Hill is looking forward to playing this part.

His love interest, Princess Jasmin, will be played by newly married production assistant Kimberley Priddle (nee Pike). Keith Robinson will be playing Widow Twankey, owner of Peking’s state-of-the-art laundry, and Richard J. Porter plays her idiot son Wishee Washee.

Michael Bolton, in his first principal role for the society, is the Emperor of China, with Margaret Robinson the Empress. Zoe Pike rounds off the Imperial household as Princess Jasmin’s handmaiden, May Ling.

The Imperial Police Force of Darren Oxman, Paul Chilcott, Lindsey Stone and Shaun Long, in his first role for the society, will be assisting with the comedy Shaun’s son, Samuel Long, another first time principal, will be playing the all-powerful Genie of the Lamp.

The evil Abanazer, played by Ken Stone, wants the magic lamp for himself and is helped by Jade, Genie of the Ring played by Lauren Singleton. Aladdin and his Lamp marks the debut of the society’s new choreographer, Fiona Wheeler, who has created some wonderful routines. With Ian Quinn, Stage Manager; Aaron Quinn and Neil Priddle, Assistant Stage Managers; Nick Bell, Sound Re-inforcement; Joe Moretti, Musical Director; and Andy Scammell, Lighting Manager, add members of the chorus, dancers, this year’s show promises to wow audience members both young and old.

Tickets priced £10 for adults and £8 for children will be available from the box office at the Town Hall, Bridgwater, from 10am on Saturday, January 10.
