THERE aren't many people who could give Strictly judge Len Goodman, a masterclass.

But when old twinkle toes wanted to explain the various forms of jazz to viewers on his recent TV show, Len turned to Clare Teal.

Britain's leading female jazz singer, who fronts her own Radio 2 programme, was the ideal choice.

Yorkshire born Clare is one of the most successful jazz singers in recent decades with a string of albums behind her, including the UK National Top 20 hit Don’t Talk.

She won British Jazz singer of the year in both 2005 and 2007 and BBC Jazz singer of the Year in 2006. Clare has performed with artists including Jamie Cullum, Katie Melua and Liza Minnelli, has been a guest of the BBC Concert Orchestra on Friday Night Is Music Night, and appeared at this year’s 2-Day event in Hackney.

Not bad for someone who still considers herself to be "just a Yorkshire girl."

As much as she enjoys fronting her Big Band or her Hollywood Orchestra, or presenting her weekly show on BBC Radio 2, Clare still revels performing in more intimate venues.

"Getting close to an audience is a thrilling experience," says Clare.

"I love engaging in a musical and often spoken conversation with the audience."

That's why The Brewhouse in Taunton is the ideal venue for Clare.

Her music chocie ranges from the Great American and British Songbooks to the music made popular by her heroes, Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day and Peggy Lee to more contemporary covers and original material.

Clare loves to create a melting pot of styles and genres, but all sung in her inimitable style. Beautiful melodies, fabulous arrangements and all interspersed with Clare’s warm and witty story telling.

The shows are available with just piano accompaniment or Clare can be backed by her excellent trio. Whichever combination and whatever song choices, you will experience a dazzling evening of exquisite melodies sung by one of the UK’s greatest interpreters of song.
