THERE’S a body in the swimming pool, a mysterious butler and a faded film star who dreams of making a comeback.

Set in 1949, Sunset Boulevard is a classic film noir whisking audiences away to the city where dreams are broken as easily as they’re made – Hollywood.

Adapted from the 1950s Billy Wilder book, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning production originally hit stages in 1993 to rave reviews.

Now, Bridgwater-based Pinstripe Productions bring this stunning production to the McMillan Theatre.

Sunset tells the tale of a struggling screenwriter, Joe Gillis (Edward Creswick), and his fateful meeting with fallen silent movie star, Norma Desmond (Maureen Wycherley, performer with Bristol Light Opera Club and Weston Operatic Society).

And it’s a meeting that changes both their lives irreversibly.

Unable to accept her fall from fame, Norma ensnares Joe in a web of delusions and dreams, desperately seeking her grand return to the screen at any cost.

Featuring a talented hand-picked cast, stunning orchestration, and classics such as With One Look, As If We Never Said Goodbye and Sunset Boulevard, this show is set to captivate and enthral audiences from start to finish.

James Tucker, producer and director at Pinstripe said: “We are amongst the first amateur theatre companies in the UK to be bringing Sunset Boulevard to the stage. As a Bridgwater company, we’re thrilled to be bringing such a huge musical to Somerset – especially at such an incredible new theatre.

“Although we’re an amateur company, we strive to make our productions nothing short of professional. From a hand-picked cast of the finest local talent, to lavish sets and costumes, we’re going all out to transport our audiences back to 1950s Hollywood.”
