SHOPPERS in Burnham are bringing drama write down to the shops.

Local people as well as students are being asked to create five minute scripts about the town.

Twelve of these will be selected to be performed by professional actors and a production team at shops around Burnham in April.

The company behind the scheme, Show Of Strength Theatre, has produced work by writers including Peter Nichols, Mark Ravenhill and Sandi Toksvig.

A series of writing workshops at Burnham Library have been planned to encourage writers on Saturday, January 23.

Sheila Hannon, Show Of Strength’s Creative Producer, said: "Burnham is a lovely seaside town with great independent shops, and Trading Local is a glorious way to celebrate them. It will be a great day out, and all for free."

Burnham will be transformed on Saturday, April 16 when six professional actors stage 48 free live performances in shops in the town centre.

Project Manager Jacqui Strong, added: "I have seen Trading Local in Wells and fell in love with the essence of the day, bringing the chance to work with a professional theatre company and gain new skills which will culminate with an enjoyable full days entertainment to our home town was a must."

Drama Practitioner, Selina Keedwell said: ‘This is an excellent opportunity for the community to get involved and celebrate artistic talent in our town by writing a script. Everyone has a story to tell and I can’t wait to see those stories performed, by professional actors, in our local shops and businesses."

BOS Community Theatre group was set up in 2015 with an aim of making the professional theatre experience available to alland to encourage creative writing and theatre performance.

An additional project is running alongside within schools and residential homes, encouraging young people to write short stories as part of a competition. The stories will hopefully be shared amongst the residential homes later in the year who may not be able to access the event but would want to be involved.
