DOZENS of budding authors and poets filled Burnham's library for the opening session of a new writing event.

The two hour session saw writers with no experience to those who have previously had short stories or poetry printed hear their work read out.

The opportunity for local people to come together and write a short monologue that if selected will be performed by actors in and around Burnham shops and business.

Sheila Hannon from the Show of Strength Theatre Company which is behind the scheme said: "was thrilled she said: "This is the 10th time we have taken Trading Local into the community and I am so pleased with the amount of people who have come along to our first workshop in Burnham"

The project is being overseen by volunteers and local residents of the BOS Community Theatre Group.

Jacqui Strong one of the project managers added: "You are never sure how well received these type of projects are but we are really pleased to see so many people willing to write a script and hopefully see something performed. I have never written before like this and I have managed to put something together - so who knows."

Saturday was the first of four writing workshops with the next on Tuesday, February 2 at the Crafty Tea Cup on Victoria Street 10.

The next is Thursday,February 11 at the Round Tower Guest House on the Esplanade between 2pm and 4pm and a third at the Royal Clarence Hotel, between 7pm and 9pm on Wednesday, February 17.
