EXCLUSIVE - Teddy heartbreak
 |
| Dan and Deb Armstrong with young Jaimee and Emily |
A DEVASTATED Burnham family are preparing to fly more than 1400 miles to retrieve a cherished teddy bear that has been theirs for more than 50 years.
After a week's holiday in sunny Spain, the Armstrong family were looking forward to returning home, but as they fastened their seatbelts they realised they had left behind some very precious cargo.
A soft toy called Little Orange Ted, now belonging to seven-year-old Jaimee, had been packed in hand luggage and left behind in Gerona Airport.
Deborah, Jaimee's mother, told the Weekly News: "As soon as the seatbelt sign went out on the plane, we realised what had happened - but it was too late.
"Jaimee has now been crying for two weeks, she blames herself and feels like it is all her fault, it was her dad's teddy."
Jaimee's father Dan had been given Little Orange Ted by his aunt. After being loved for more than 50 years, the bear is now missing an eye and has no fur.
After several calls to the airport, Deborah has been told staff have the hand luggage, including the toy, but cannot return it to the family.
Deborah said: "Flying out is something we are willing to do.
"The flight will cost £72, but that also means that Dan will have to take time off work, it seems stupid that they won't just send it back.
"I keep waking up in the middle of the night thinking about it, but it looks like we will just have to go back and get it."
