TOWN council officials met on Monday night and elected Cllr Peter Clayton as the new mayor for Burnham and Highbridge.
Cllr Derek Cooper was named as deputy mayor and outgoing Mayor Pauline Pollard, absent from the meeting after a fall, was named as second deputy.
The annual meeting saw Conservative Cllr Clayton, who last wore the mayoral chain in 1993, nominated by his fellow peers for the prestigious post.
After signing the declaration of acceptance, Cllr Clayton gave a short speech thanking councillors for his nomination, before presenting his fiancée Joanna Burridge with the Mayoress badge.
He then named Christine Judson, Curate of St John's Church in Highbridge as Mayor's Chaplin and Sgt Tom Barker as the Mayor's Cadet.
Cllr Clayton told the Weekly News he was absolutely delighted to be elected for his second term as mayor.
He said: "I was mayor in 1992/1993 and I still think I have a lot of enthusiasm and a commitment to work hard for people.
"I am looking forward to what should be an exciting year and I am pleased to have Cllrs Cooper and Pollard as my deputies."
The new Burnham and Highbridge Mayor also outlined his aims for the year ahead - targeting the completion of the Frank Foley Parkway and the start of the Rosewood Farm recreation area as his main goals.
He stressed he would also be pushing for traffic calming measures in roads around the area and carefully following any proposed plans for the Highbridge cattle market site.
"The Market development in Highbridge is also something I will be keeping a close eye on to see it is what the people of Highbridge want and deserve," he added.
