A STUDENT at Somerset College who overcame deafness to complete a fashion degree has spoken of her pride at fulfilling her lifetime ambition.

Nipa Yamjamnan, from Thailand, came to the UK in 2003 with support from the Thai government.

The 28-year-old said: “I never thought as a child on a village farm that one day I would achieve a high-level qualification and be part of fashion shows in London.”

College lecturer Gary Mills said: “Nipa was so passionate about fashion and was obviously very talented.

“We wanted to make sure she was able to not only partake in the course but excel to the best of her abilities”.

The college adapted its course to ensure Nipa, who had to learn British sign language, was able to learn as well as the others.
