A CLUB in Burnham which has more than 100 members fears its future is uncertain – after thieves targeted it for the fourth time in just over a year.
Graham Wills, treasurer of Burnham Sailing Club, is concerned members will be put off after the latest incident saw thieves smash through an inner wall last weekend and steal around £1,200 worth of alcohol.
He told the Weekly News: “They came equipped and forced their way into the building. They seem to have tried to get through the door to the bar storage room and when that failed they smashed through the concrete wall and took all the alcohol.”
Mr Wills said there had been four thefts from the club, totalling more than £20,000 altogether, over the last 15 months.
“We had electricity supply cable stolen, then in a second incident more cable stolen, and then in June we had another break-in where outboard motors and dinghies were taken,” he said.
“This is the fourth incident and it’s very disheartening for club members."
