A CAFE owner in Burnham is calling for increased surveillance after vandals smashed their way in – for the second time in just three months.

Anne Fudge, owner of the Bay View Cafe on the South Esplanade, is looking at a £500 bill to repair a window destroyed in a failed break-in at her business the day before Christmas Eve.

The sum follows around £2,000 worth of damage caused when thieves broke into the cafe in September, taking a large amount of cash from the till and other items.

Anne told the Weekly News: “The break-in happened on Sunday, December 23, at around 3am but this time they didn’t get anything. We don’t leave money on the premises overnight so they left empty-handed.

“However, it will cost me £500 to replace the pane of glass. It was the same type as the one which was broken in September so that’s £1,000 on windows alone.

“This seems to have been planned. I hope they were caught on CCTV but I’d like to see more cameras and more police patrols in the area.

“I’m also looking at installing shop shutters.”

Windows were also smashed at Peacocks and Aniqa Fashions in the High Street on Christmas Eve.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage and urging anyone with any information to call them on 101.
