EXTENSIVE work to repair damaged sewers is due to start in a Sedgemoor village next week.

Engineers from Wessex Water will replace the sewer which serves Meare as they believe it may soon burst.

A spokesman said: “Replacing the sewer will remove the risk of flooding to the English Heritage site of the Abbot’s Fish House.

“The new rising main will be installed from the sewage pumping station at Turn-bridge, through Glastonbury Road and up to the sewage treatment works located off St Mary’s Road.”

The work is expected to take up to three months to complete and is due to begin on Monday, January 14.
