A SCHOOL near Wedmore has been re-accredited with a prestigious award.

Hugh Sexey Middle School in Blackford has been recognised for delivering the NACE Challenge Award Framework for its Gifted and Talented Provision.

It is just one of 56 schools in the country to have sustained its success in its provision for Most Able pupils, and improved further since its first award in 2008.

The NACE Challenge Award Framework is recognised by external bodies, such as Ofsted, as a mark of quality.

Headteacher Jenny Venning said: “We are proud and delighted to receive this award.

“Working towards the standards required has helped us focus more precisely on meeting the needs of high attainers through a 'challenge for all' approach, and has ensured we are raising expectations and challenge for all groups of children.”

The report said there had been an improvement in achievement for all pupils over the last three years and that new leadership has 'invigorated the school'.

The school held a presentation ceremony to celebrate the achievement and the award was presented to the school by Frances Nicholson, Somerset County Council Member for Children and Families.
