SOMERSET County Council says it is investigating whether there is any trace of horsemeat in school meals in the county.

A spokesman said: “We’re liaising with schools and catering contractors to make sure the food chain’s safe.”

The scandal reached Somerset last week when the Food Standards Agency said traces of bute were found in six horses slaughtered at an abattoir near Taunton before going to France.
