Residents appeal to bring trees back to streets
TREES have been re-introduced to some residential areas of Burnham thanks to community efforts.
Burnham residents Beverley and Sarah Milner Simonds began organising new trees to be planted in local neighbourhoods during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, after noticing a decline in the amount of greenery.
Sarah said the pair are now looking to hear from others who want to re-introduce trees to their streets.
She added: “Many trees have gradually been removed over time for one reason or another and we want to bring some back.
“We have already received help from Councillor Peter Burridge-Clayton’s Health and Wellbeing budget from Somerset County Council.
“The support will enable us to work with community groups on this project in order to reintroduce trees to streets in our towns.
“We have trialled this successfully in one location and would like to expand the planting.”
