THE official opening of a £350,000 park and children’s play area in Burnham, delayed for months by bad weather, has again been hit by the Heavens.

The opening of the Rosewood Green site went ahead this morning, but it was too wet for children from Burnham Infants’ School to join in the fun.

However, according to Sedgemoor District Council chairman, Gill Slocombe, who carried out the opening, not even the weather could spoil the occasion.

She said: “I am absolutely amazed at the range of equipment that children can play on.

“The whole area is laid out extremely well and it is a fantastic place. I am sure that the children who live nearby are delighted that the play area is now open and ready in time for the Easter holidays.

“The weather has played a large part in the delays in getting the area open - and today is no exception - but nothing can damped the atmosphere here.”

The facility, built on a former landfill site north of Wallace Wells Road, was completed last October but has suffered setbacks due to the extremely wet autumn and winter weather.
