A PATRON of an East Huntspill wildlife rescue charity is encouraging people to help protect Somerset’s woodland.

Simon King, patron of Secret World, will judge photographs submitted in The Woodland Trust’s VisitWoods Photography Competition.

The Trust is encouraging people to get outdoors this summer to appreciate native trees and woods as part of its ‘love it or lose it’ campaign.

Categories are: Forests and People, All Creatures Great and Small, Nature’s Playground and Modern Wonders.

Mr King, a wildlife photographer and television presenter, will judge the shortlisted entries.

He said: “Our native woodland spaces are incredibly important. I have spent my whole life in and around trees and can testify to their impact.

“The natural environment provides the backdrop for stunning photography too, so I’d encourage everyone to get outdoors and take part.”

The overall winner will receive £500 in high street vouchers and a three-night hotel stay courtesy of DoubleTree by Hilton.

To enter, upload a relevant photo to www.VisitWoods.org.uk/photography by July 31. Terms and conditions apply.
