Bedroom Tax support for Sedgemoor tenants
7:30pm Wednesday 14th August 2013 in News
TENANTS across Sedgemoor suffering from the effect of the ‘Bedroom Tax’ are being offered a ‘home swap’ scheme.
Homes in Sedgemoor are helping tenants to downsize to tackle a reduction in Housing Benefit for having too many bedrooms.
The landlord is hosted a ‘Mutual Exchange’ event with SHAL Housing Ltd yesterday (August 7), where potential ‘home swap’ tenants were able to talk to housing officials.
A ‘Mutual Exchange’ is when a home swap is arranged with another social housing tenant, with permission from their respective landlords. Residents take on the tenancy rights of the property they move into.
Dawn Lang, chief executive of Homes in Sedgemoor said: “We are pleased to be able to offer our tenants the chance to attend these events and, hopefully, find a solution to their housing requirements.”
Tenants are advised to request information packs and property sheets beforehand to give them the best chance of getting the property they want.
