A DEDICATED volunteer from Burnham has been thanked in person by London 2012 chief Lord Coe for helping hundreds of people get involved in sport.
Jonathan Smith (pictured) received a VIP invitation to the official opening of the Copper Box Arena in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Saturday.
The 21-year-old was one of 70 volunteers crowned as Community Games Shining Lights who were invited to meet Lord Coe during the weekend’s Anniversary Games.
Jonathan said: “It was a real honour to meet Lord Coe, and to be representing Burnham at such a big event.
“We were given a plaque, and Lord Coe gave a speech where he thanked us for making the Olympics such a success through getting people involved in sport.”
Jonathan has organised several Community Games events in the past year, but Saturday’s invite gave him his first opportunity to visit the site of the London 2012 Games.
His next Community Games spectacular will take place at Burnham’s BAY Centre on Monday, August 19.
