Highbridge media student presents breakfast radio show
A HIGHBRIDGE media student has taken to the airwaves to help present a radio breakfast show.
Jake Hodge volunteers at Access FM, based at Bridgwater YMCA, for two hours each weekday morning.
Jake and fellow students Sian Graham both study the Foundation Degree in Media Practice at Bridgwater College and present on the college’s Media Academy3’s radio station to around 600 online listeners a week.
They currently broadcast weather and traffic reports, the ‘low down’ on Bridgwater, do a daily brainteaser and play music on their breakfast show.
Jake, 19, said: “Since starting my course I have presented on two radio shows, both through the College and Access FM and gained freelance work with the BBC on both feature and short films.
“The course has helped me in these roles, as it provides both theoretical and practical learning.”
Alan Hardcastle, lecturer at Bridgwater College, said: “The best way to get a job in the media is to actually go out and work in the industry, whether voluntary or paid, and it is not always as hard as it sounds.
“Access FM is a community based radio station and is a great start to a media career - whether presenting or producing.”
Tune in to Access FM, 104.2 between 7.30 and 9.30am, from Monday to Friday.
