Highbridge couple celebrate diamond wedding anniversary
A HIGHBRIDGE couple have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with more than 60 guests at a tea party.
Gerald, 78, and Hilda, 79, Marshall celebrated the occasion at Moorland Social Club with 65 family and friends.
The pair have lived in Highbridge for around 50 years, after moving to the town in the early 60s.
They met in Burnham in 1951. Hilda worked in a bacon factory and later helped her family with farm work. Gerald was a baker until he joined the army, after which he was a lorry driver.
Gerald said the secret to a long marriage is “hard work and compassion”.
The couple thanked everyone who donated at the tea party to the British Heart Foundation. Around £500 was raised.
