A CHARITY shop in Burnham is appealing for help after preying thieves stole a toy owl.

Staff at the National Animal Welfare Trust charity shop in Regent Street first noticed their furry friend, named Ozzie, was missing last Wednesday afternoon.

Ozzie is a foot-tall plush toy with the markings of a barn owl and usually stands close to the entrance to the shop.

He is motion sensitive so when customers come through the front door he turns his head and hoots.

Gail Wainwright, volunteer at the shop, said: “A lot of people, especially those with children, look at the owl and hear it when it hoots at them.

“The owl is on a movement sensor so when you walkpast itmakes the noise of an owl – people laugh about it.

“A couple of people have said it is a bit much to steal it so we hope it might be a bit of a joke and that someone will bring it back soon.”

Staff say they do not know whether the toy owl was taken on purpose or as a prank but they are appealing to members of the public to keep their eyes peeled to look out for Ozzie.”

Ellie Tee, another volunteer, added: “We are all very upset about. Ozzie was very popular with the local residents especially children, as he hooted and moved his head when the sensor was activated.”
