New crematorium is a success
A NEW crematorium between Burnham and Bridgwater has opened its doors to mourners.
Westerleigh Group, the company behind the project, says the Sedgemoor Crematorium, off the A38 at Stretcholt, has already been praised by bereaved families.
Richard Evans, managing director, said: “We have had many compliments from funeral directors, clergy and mourners on the building and grounds and how much they appreciate having a local service.
“Many people mentioned to me that it had made the whole event much more personal.”
Richard Marsh, of Burnham Funeral Ser-vices, arranged the first funeral and says he has heard nothing but praise for the crematorium.
He told the Weekly News: “We’ve held about four funerals there now and feedback has been very positive.
“Families like it because of the beautiful setting and the fact that local people no longer have to endure journeys to other crematoria in Taunton and Weston.
“Being a new build, access is also well thought out and is wheelchair friendly.”
Service times have also been expanded from 20 minutes to 45 and the crematorium will be less busy than others.
Mr Marsh added the facility also benefits from a video link system. He said: “Mourners will be able to witness the service by watching a recording of it on their computer. This is good for family living abroad or people who are too ill to attend in person.
“The new crematorium has been a long time coming and I’m glad it’s been so well received.”
