Hugh Sexey school teacher raises cash for Goldenhar support group
A TEACHER from Hugh Sexey Middle School near Wedmore has helped to raise £600 for a charity which helps people who suffer with a rare birth defect.
Alistair Sage, head of languages at the school, raised the cash for the Goldenhar Family Support Group.
The charity helps families who have relatives with Goldenhar Syndrome – a term which includes a range of bone abnormalities affecting the face, ears and vertebrae.
Alistair did a sponsored run into school for a week, clocking up over 40 miles. He then agreed to 'fall' into the swimming pool during the lunch break.
Head teacher Jenny Venning said: “Pupils had the opportunity to pay 50p to gain access into the pool and then a further donation at ask Mr Sage a question. Each time he answered the unanswerable question he had to take a step closer to the pool and the inevitable happened, to the delight of the crowds.”
All the funds went to the Goldenhar Family Support Group.
